A NATURAL
MARINE BIOPESTICIDE
Micro-algae
• They are ancestral
• They have colonised all marine and freshwaters
• There are estimated to be several hundred thousand species.
• They are photosynthetic marine microorganisms that capture CO2
• They can be green, brown or red
• They are invisible to the naked eye ( 1 to 200 μm in size)
• They produce molecules that could be useful to numerous industries (nutraceuticals, human and animal health, cosmetics, environment….)

D extract
In 2016 we identified Amphidinium Carerae as the first micro-algae with a role to play in the control of plant diseases. The naturel molecules it produces combat a broad spectrum of plant disease-causing fungi.
The ImmunRise Biocontrol team formulates these natural molecules into leaf and seed treatments.

The tests
In accordance with international standards, our D extract is subject to a battery of in vitro screening tests to determine the scope of its actions
against the most common plant fungi.
The results show that 80% of fungi are sensitive to D extract. D extract works through its affinity with ergosterol, which structures the cell membrane of the fungus. This biochemical reaction destroys the structure of the membrane and leads to the destruction of the fungus.
This unique and fundamental mechanism opens up new perspectives for using micro algae as the basis for natural and powerful plant protection products which have never been harnessed until now.
ImmunRise seeks to bring the laboratory success into the field by development work and a formulation adapted to the micro-organisms on the host crops to be protected.

The results
Leaves
Since 2016, IBF has been carrying out field trails on vines. This allows different doses/hectare, different formulations to be tested and to refine the product positioning in order to define GAP (Good Agricultural Practices).

Seed
treatments
Since 2021, IBF is developing its crop track record with internal in vitro trials and field trials with technical institutions and seed producers looking for alternative to compensate the planned withdrawal of chemical solutions. This track record accumulates efficiency data which will allow targeted Seed Treatment use.

Future
developments
A comprehensive screening for plant pathogens was carried out for D extract.
The results are very positive, the anti-fungal spectrum of action of the strain is extensive as it works on over 80% of plant fungi.
The challenge now for IBF is to maintain the product’s observed laboratory effectiveness against fungal disease in real farm conditions.
After having consolidated a large amount of performance data based on several years of product field tests against vine mildew,
The challenge for IBF is to strengthen the product’s stability and to accelerate the development of its treatment solutions for field crops and vegetables.
