STUDY 1: SORGHUM SEED TREATMENT

Sorghum/Gibberella fujikuro

Bakane is a major disease affecting rice, sorghum and maize. It is caused by the fungus Gibberella fujikuroi, which spreads to the seeds
causes damping-off and root rot.

Current treatment products:
Fludioxonil (phenylpyrrole) 25 g/l
+ metalaxyl-M (phenylamide) 10 g/l

Restrictions on use:
treated seeds may only be sown under cover.

Artificial sorghum seeds contaminated by Gibberella fujikuro

Untreated (-)

of 25 seeds/modality

In vitro test

Inoculated with G. fujikuroi

Terrine test

The unformulated IBF treatment was >70% effective in treating sorghum seeds artificially contaminated with G. fujikuroi under laboratory conditions --> Need to test the addition of coatings.
